When is it appropriate to use 'Over' in radio transmissions?

To start a transmission.

To notify the other party that you are listening.

When you have finished transmitting and expect a response from the other party.

In radio communications, the word "Over" signals that you have finished speaking and you are awaiting a reply from the other party. It helps manage turn-taking so the listener knows when to respond instead of interrupting. It is not used to start a transmission, not to just indicate you are listening, and not to cancel a message. A typical use is: “This is Station Bravo, over,” then you wait for a response.

To indicate a cancellation of the message.
